Settlers Country Manor Wedding Venue Guide

Venue Guide: Waimauku
Our take on Waimauku's heritage estate, from a photographer's point of view
Settlers Country Manor is one of those venues we always get a little excited about when a couple mentions it. It sits on seven acres in Waimauku, about 25 minutes from central Auckland, and the property has been hosting weddings since 1909, so there's over a century of character built into the place. Here's our honest read on what a wedding day there actually looks like, from where we stand behind the camera.
Why We Rate It
What we love about Settlers is that everything happens on the one estate, ceremony, photos, dinner, and dancing, so nobody is losing half the afternoon to travel between locations. It also means we get a genuinely wide range of backdrops in a single session, lakeside lawns, arched bridges, palm-lined paths, and heritage interiors, without ever leaving the property. For a couple who wants variety in their gallery without a complicated day-of schedule, it's hard to beat.
Getting There
The estate is at 81 Waimauku Station Road, Waimauku, in Auckland's wine country, around 25 minutes from the CBD. It's close enough that guests don't need to plan an overnight stay, but far enough out that the gardens feel properly private once you're inside them.
The Grounds
Settlers' seven acres are the real drawcard for us as photographers. There are century-old pines, a lake with an arched bridge, palm-lined walkways, and manicured lawns, and because the estate has four different indoor and outdoor ceremony locations, we can usually find a spot that suits the light at whatever time the ceremony is booked for. The Palm Isle gazebo, tucked behind the lake and reached over its own little bridge, is one of our favourite corners of the property, it has that private, tucked-away feel even though it's a short walk from the main lawns.
If you're after black sand and rugged coastline for part of your photo timeline, Muriwai Beach is only about seven minutes from the estate, which is a nice option to have in your back pocket for sunset portraits.
The Banquet Hall and Arch Hall
Indoors, the Banquet Hall is the venue's grand reception space, high ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and a timeless look that works with pretty much any styling direction a couple throws at it. We also really like the brick archway hall, exposed brick, heavy timber beams, and a string of crystal chandeliers running the length of the room, it has a warmth to it that photographs beautifully once the evening lighting comes on, especially for couples who want that rustic-meets-elegant look without going fully outdoors.
Our Planning Tips
Because Settlers has four ceremony spaces across very different settings, garden, lakeside, and two distinct indoor rooms, our advice is to pick your ceremony location with the time of day in mind first, then build styling around it. A late afternoon garden ceremony gives us that soft, low light coming through the palms, while an evening ceremony in the arch hall leans into the chandeliers and warm brick tones instead. Either way works, but it changes the whole mood of the gallery, so it's worth deciding early with your coordinator.
The estate also has a lot of experience hosting cultural celebrations, Indian, Asian, Māori and Pasifika, and Middle Eastern weddings among them, and the layout genuinely helps with this, different parts of the property let a big day flow without everyone being packed into one room for hours on end. If your celebration involves multiple outfit changes or extended family rituals, it's worth flagging early so the day's photo timeline can be built around it properly.
