A Full Taranaki Celebration at Okurukuru Winery
Updated: Sep 10
A Karakia to Open the Day
Janaya and Hunter were married at Okurukuru Winery in Oakura, just outside New Plymouth, on a late April Saturday that ran from midday right through to the evening's dancing. With two photographers and a videographer on hand, the day began with prep and a private first look before moving into a ceremony that opened with a karakia, a lovely nod to the couple's own traditions woven into the celebration.
A Winery, and the Bush Just Minutes Away
After group photos and a mix and mingle with guests, the wedding party made the short trip to Lucy's Gully, tucked into the Taranaki bush, for portraits before heading back to the venue for the reception. It's a lovely example of how a Taranaki wedding can pair a working winery with the region's native bush just minutes away, giving a full day of coverage a real variety of backdrops. Back at Okurukuru, the evening moved through a grand entrance, a champagne tower, speeches either side of dinner, and a first dance that carried the celebration into the night, with a wedding party of six and around seven speeches on the run sheet, very much a day built around family and close friends.
