A Church Wedding and a Home Reception: Marilyn & Simon's Day

A Traditional Ceremony, A Homemade Reception

There's something timeless about a traditional church ceremony followed by a reception at home, and that's exactly the shape Marilyn and Simon's wedding took. Bringing together Peruvian and English heritage, the couple exchanged vows at St Paul's, Symonds Street before heading to a relaxed, home cooked reception in Onehunga with around twenty of their nearest family and friends.

Two Traditions, One Personal Day

The afternoon began with bride preparation, followed by guests gathering ahead of a 2pm ceremony at the church. From there, the day moved into group photos and a bridal location shoot, before everyone reconvened for a reception built around cake, speeches, and a home cooked meal, the kind of personal touch that a smaller guest list makes possible. There's a particular warmth to a wedding that mixes a formal church ceremony with a genuinely relaxed, homemade reception, letting Marilyn and Simon's celebration feel both meaningful and unpretentious.

A Church Ceremony and Home Reception of Your Own?

If a church ceremony at St Paul's, Symonds Street or a similarly intimate, home based reception is part of your own wedding plans, Marilyn and Simon's day is a lovely example of how beautifully that combination can come together. We'd love to hear from you if you're planning something similar.
