Stretch Tents NZ: The Freeform Canvas That Turns Any Backyard Into a Wedding Venue
Updated: Aug 29
Vendor Spotlight: Marquees & Tents
If you've ever seen photos of a wedding under one of those billowing, sail-like white tents with the dramatic peaks and valleys, there's a good chance it was a Stretch Tents installation. We love shooting under these things. The fabric catches light in a way that a boxy traditional marquee just can't, and because the tent can be rigged freestanding over uneven ground or wrapped around trees, it tends to feel like it grew naturally out of the site rather than being dropped on top of it.

Operating Nationwide Since 2009
Stretch Tents NZ has been installing these tents since 2009 and now covers six prime locations across the country, from Auckland and Waiheke down through the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Canterbury and Southland. The Auckland team is based on the North Shore and services Auckland, Rodney and Waiheke, with an experienced crew that handles everything from the tent itself through to furniture, lighting, flooring and dance floors, all professionally delivered, installed and removed. They also partner with Morley & Co for full 2D and 3D event design if you want your whole layout planned out before the day.
Their tents can be installed freestanding on grass, attached to an existing building as a canopy (their unique rigging system lets them attach onto a roofline for a rain-proof solution), or joined together to create a larger covered space for bigger guest counts. Every tent is fully waterproof, fire-retardant and engineered specifically for New Zealand conditions, with capacity for anything from an intimate gathering up to 1,000 guests.

Wedding Packages
Stretch Tents NZ has clearly thought about how stressful wedding planning admin can get, because they've bundled the essentials into set wedding packages: vintage furniture, festoon and fairy lighting, and the correctly sized tent, all installed and ready for you to style. If your guest numbers don't fit a standard package, they'll tailor one to suit. Given these are subject to availability, it's worth locking in your date reasonably early, especially if you're eyeing a peak-season wedding weekend.
Pricing
Stretch Tents NZ publishes a few flooring reference prices: premium grey snaplock flooring runs around $14 per square metre plus GST, and a 5x5m black slate-look dance floor is $625 plus GST installed. Tent pricing itself isn't published, since it depends on size, configuration and add-ons, so treat these flooring numbers as a general reference rather than your full budget, and get an actual quote through their booking form for the tent and package pricing.

Why We Love Shooting Under Stretch Tents
The organic, flowing shape of a stretch tent means no two setups ever look quite the same, and that's a gift for us as photographers. Combined with festoon lighting and a good golden hour, these tents produce some of the most atmospheric reception photos we get to take all year. If you're picturing an outdoor wedding with that relaxed, sail-cloth-in-the-wind feel, Stretch Tents NZ is well worth a look alongside your booking with Popin Wedding.
