Astra Bridal: Our Pick for Auckland Wedding Gowns
Vendor Spotlight: Bridal & Wedding Dresses
Every wedding we shoot starts with the dress. Before we ever pick up a camera, we're already thinking about how a gown is going to move down an aisle, catch the light on a dance floor, or hold its shape through a six hour reception. Astra Bridal is one of the first names we mention when a couple asks us where to start looking, and after photographing enough of their gowns on real wedding days, we understand why they've built the reputation they have across Auckland.

Why We Recommend Them
Astra Bridal carries genuinely well made designer gowns, not just a big showroom of similar looking dresses. We regularly see Jenny Yoo, Maggie Sottero, Rebecca Ingram and Sottero & Midgley on their racks, which gives couples a real spread of silhouettes to try, from simple modern satin to heavily beaded lace. They were featured in British Vogue in 2024, which says something about how the wider industry sees them, but honestly what matters more to us is how consistently well their gowns photograph. Clean necklines, dresses that hold their structure in wind and movement, trains that fall properly for that walking away shot we always chase.
What They Offer
Beyond gowns, Astra Bridal stocks veils, jewellery, garters and other bridal accessories, so a lot of couples end up sorting most of their bridal look in one place. They run styled consultation appointments as well as more casual walk-in style Sip & See events a few times a year, which are worth watching for if a couple wants to browse without committing to a full appointment slot straight away.
The Experience
Their Auckland footprint covers two salons: a large 300 square metre space in Newmarket with the widest range of gowns in the city, and a smaller, more intimate North Shore salon for couples who prefer a quieter appointment. Both are described as inclusive and family friendly, which we think matters when a couple wants to bring a small support crew along to the fitting rather than going alone.

Our Tips
If a couple is choosing between two gowns and can't decide, we always suggest thinking about the ceremony space first. A structured satin gown holds its shape beautifully for an outdoor ceremony in any wind, while a heavily beaded lace gown catches side light in a way that looks incredible in golden hour portraits but can read a little heavy under harsh midday sun. We'd also say: book your dress fitting early enough that we can see it beforehand, even just photos, so we know what we're working with on the day.
Astra Bridal at a Glance

If you're a Popin Wedding couple still deciding on your dress, we're always happy to talk through what tends to photograph well before you commit to a gown. Full day wedding coverage means we get to see your dress in every kind of light the day throws at us, so we like being part of that decision early rather than meeting your gown for the first time on the morning itself.
