Vendor Spotlight: Bridal & Wedding Dresses

Art Kollocsion in Onehunga is the boutique we mention when a couple tells us they want a genuinely custom dress but are working with a tighter budget than most designer studios expect. They design and make gowns in house, offer sketch to garment custom services, and their finished pieces, sequined florals, patterned brocade, sculpted corsetry, look far more expensive than their price points suggest.

Why We Recommend Them

Most custom bridal design in Auckland sits at a price point that rules out a lot of couples. Art Kollocsion's wedding dresses run from roughly $1,400 to $3,000, which is genuinely accessible for made to measure work, and they'll also do attachable sleeves and design tweaks that usually cost extra elsewhere. The floral sequin and brocade detailing they do particularly well photographs beautifully in direct light, since the texture catches highlights that a plain satin gown doesn't.

What They Offer

Beyond wedding gowns, they carry bridesmaids dresses, ball gowns, party dresses and bridal heels, plus custom sketch services for couples who want to design their own dress from scratch. International shipping and a reported six week turnaround on some custom pieces make them a genuine option even for couples working on a tighter planning timeline.

The Experience

The studio is based at 78 Princes Street in Onehunga, where couples come in for measurements and fabric selection before their piece is made. It's a more hands on, working studio feel rather than a polished retail showroom, which some brides actually prefer, especially if they want to be closely involved in the design decisions.

Our Tips

Heavily sequined or beaded bodices like this one need direct light to really show their detail, so we'll usually plan a portrait or two in open shade or golden hour sun specifically to catch the sequins catching light, rather than relying on a shaded ceremony backdrop where the detail can get lost. If a couple is going custom, we'd also suggest sending us reference photos of the design early so we know what we're working with well before the wedding day.
